A Day in the Life of a Dorm Student
Dorm students enjoy the convenience of living on campus in an environment that supports a healthy spectrum of opportunities and support. High school life makes it easy to connect with teachers and friends or explore and pursue a wide variety of interests and activities. With the caring and guided support of the dorm staff, students learn to develop a healthy balance of living and learning.
Before School
Students are awakened in the mornings with plenty time to prepare for their school day. Students with interests in music can build on their musical talents and earn class credit through joining the early morning ensembles groups. All students are expected to leave their dormitory rooms tidy everyday before going to school.
Breakfast
A full nutritious breakfast menu is served each weekday morning in the school cafeteria before school starts. Students enjoy meeting their friends at breakfast before heading to class.
After School
The after-school hours are filled with many opportunities for students to join sports teams, attend their clubs or service committees, or they can spend some time socializing with their friends. The school facilities remain open to students while academic assistance programs are available to help support their academic success.
Dinner
Boarders enjoy hot dinners each evening and the cafeteria remains open long enough to accommodate the schedules of each student.
Study Hall
A two-hour study hall is supervised each morning and evening where students can focus on their academics and work in a quiet atmosphere. Here students have the privilege of accessing the school facilities for subject specific study sessions throughout the week for assistance in areas of specific academic needs.
Devotions
A short time is taken each evening to meet as a “dorm family” and recap the day together and keep informed of upcoming events. It is also a time for dorm staff to share from their own experiences on life’s values and areas of personal and spiritual growth in which students can learn.
Lights Out / Quiet Time
Students have a “lights out” time based on their grade and academic standing. With a quiet time in place at 11:00pm, most students have the option to continue in their studies in their rooms or to get some rest. Younger students who do not have computer access in their rooms can have an additional supervised study time until 11:30 pm.
